Dear fellow health informatics professionals,

Allow me to get the ball rolling in the introduction section :)

My name is Adam and I hail from Singapore.
I'm currently running binaryHealthCare.com , a social enterprise advocating Health IT as an enabler for “better patient care at lower cost” by raising the standards of health informatics through training, continuing education and providing a vendor neutral community for knowledge exchange and collaboration (this is where ClubPACS comes in).

ClubPACS is a community portal, this means that you (a member of the community) owns it as much as I do so please do contribute to ClubPACS and lets us make it successful.

Cheers
Adam

Adam,

Thanks for getting the ball rolling!

I am Rajesh. Like Adam I am passionate about IT enabling the healthcare sector especially at the primary and secondary level as they are the most ignored and most difficult to implement and support continuously, particularly in emerging nations.

My previous attempt to IT enable Indian healthcare is at http://in.zudha.com

In a renewed effort with a better insight into the intricacies of healthcare I am now involved with PinkCRM http://www.pinkcrm.com

I am excited to be part of this community as it is initiated by an experienced healthcare IT professional like Adam.

Looking forward to interact, network and share knowledge with like minded professionals here.

Please count me in for any support.

Rajesh
Hi Adam, it's nice to meet people like yourself who have a passion for raising the bar of Healthcare Informatics. I'm the IT Manager/PACS/RIS Specialist for a large radiology group in Atlanta. I'm also looking forward to networking and sharing of our common interests. I am also a proponent of vendor neutrality.

Ted
Hi Guys,

The honor is all mine, I'm glad to be connected with like minds individuals who are also in the quest to make health informatics a 'better' profession.

Do keep the discussion and networking flowing, ClubPACS 2.0 can make it!
nice objective but you have to share resource. post it in the forum page as attached docs. this way this community kick-off.

It is a real pity that the old content in ClubPACS is lost (forever) and hence the real challenge here is to rebuild it not only in terms of information but also knowledge, experiences and opinions sharing as well as networking - as a community. Just having one or two individuals providing documents will result in a quick fizzle (besides, Google will be a more effective tool if one is just interested in getting information and not return any).

I'm working to get established experts to join in the cause and contribute but it's really a chicken and egg issue (the good news is there are alot of industry experts who are interested but are getting caught up with time due to HIMSS, RSNA etc).

Now on my end, I'm trying to see how I can best port BinaryHealthCare's resources over but that's just me, ClubPACS is a community, not Adam's little gig so all you folks reading this, please do post any questions you have, interesting documents or spread the word.

The community is yours as much as it is mine, it will be tough but I urge you wonderful people to join me in the cause.

Regards
Adam
Hi everyone, my name is Luke Bideaux and I'm excited to be beginning my career in PACS and Health Informatics. Communities such as this are essential to my personal advancement in the field and I know many others here feel the same way. I look forward to learning a lot from everyone and tossing up questions for everyone as I encounter them.
Hello to everyone. My name is Mark Belkin - I have a different background to most of you as I come from pathology, where I had many years experience in a senior scientific and technical role. I completed my PhD in business information systems; my research looked at the effectiveness of laboratory information systems and how they impact on business outcomes in pathology. As no research like this has been done by others, I had to evolve a methodology - which was to apply the principles of Strategic Informations Systems Planning to pathology. I got some very interesting and important results - especially considering the government and public pressure to make healthcare provision more cost effective. I am seeing similar trends/comments already on this PACS/RIS site.

Currently I lecture in systems implementation, enterprise systems and medical informatics at one of the top universities in Australia, and I am actively involved in health informatics research.
Hi all, I am Sumer Sethi, i run a teleradiology company in India based out of Delhi. At www.teleradproviders.com

Hi Dr Sumer Sethi, its great to see you here :)

Greetings All,
My name is Dave Maurer, and I am 1 of 2 PACS administrators in a 200 bed pediatric facility. Looking forward to networking through this site to get and send information on how to streamline operations and to use the system to fullest potential.
I am Alvin Tanicala. I have just started to immerse myself in health information technology. I am currently working on my certification for health information technology here in California. I am originally from the Philippines and just migrated to the US. This is where I saw the potential of health information as a catalyst in improving the quality of life. I look forward to the interaction and the new knowledge I am to gain from this community.
Hi Alvin,

Welcome to the community, I personally love the Philippines (I covered the Asia region in my previous job and visited your country several times).

Just out of curiosity, what certification would that be and maybe you can start a thread to share your experiences on that certification with other community members?

Cheers
Adam

Hi Dave,

Welcome to the community.

Nice to meet everybody. My name is Shane and I'm just entering the world of PACS administration. I hail from Bakersfield, CA and work for Catholic Healthcare West. If anyone has any tips or info on how best to prepare for certification by PARCA (or SIIM) please let me know. Thanks a lot!
Shane
Hi Shane,

Welcome to ClubPACS, I think there are a few PARCA certified members around so do post your questions (even sharing your journey will help other members if they ever wish to undertake the certifications).

I just have one question for you to mull over - given that you just entered the world of PACS Administration, would you like to 'explore' the industry alittle more before embarking onto certifications?

Cheers
Adam

Thank you very much for your reply. I'm not too sure what you mean by "explore" the industry. I've worked in the Radiology department for five years and really do love it. I'm currently working on my RT license after having been a radiology tech aid. I have been tagged as a "PACS guy" due to my relative experience with computers so I have been working under our current administrator learning the ropes. It is of course more involved than most non-IT people seem to realize, and I do not have a strong background in networking and IT so I am also preparing for my Network+ certification. Even if it turns out that I don't want PACS administration as a career choice, it would be valuable knowledge to have and would look great on my resume as a tech considering PACS is only going to grow.
Sounds like you got a winning plan there, keep us posted on your progress and updates.

Good day Ramez,

Thank you for your interest in ASHIM. We are very excited that you and your colleagues are interested and have a passion for Health IT. We are currently working on a curriculum for our Health IT CHISP certification and should have it completed within the next 60 days. While that is being completed, we have taken the time to set up a practice exam on our website that offers members of our organization to assess their knowledge on Health IT. I would like to invite you and your colleagues to visit our website at ASHIM.org and any who want to purchase a membership, I will make sure that they have access to the practice exam for free. All they need to do is let me know that they are part of your team and I will make sure they are taken care of. I am very interested in your thoughts and comments of our practice exam. Thank you again and I really am looking forward to being able to speak with you further.

Thanks!
